Treatment

Annapolis Pest is proud to be certified to use the most effective (termiticide/insecticide) currently available to eliminate your termite problem. Termidor requires special training, equipment and procedures to be a certified professional. Termidor is a liquid, applied with water, and the most effective way of spreading it is through small trenches, dug around the foundation line of your home. Any voids that have been discovered during the inspection are also treated, along with cracks and expansion joints in concrete, partition walls, utility pipe entrances and exterior wood features like flower boxes. We also treat inside and under crawl spaces. Each treatment is customized to the style of your home and your particular needs. Houses vary widely on the outside, underneath they're generally built on six main types of foundations. A certified Termidor pest management professional can tell you what type you have, and what the best treatment is for you. Be aware that certain foundations, such as, full basements and crawl space homes can be more vulnerable. Termidor takes into account of the different construction types, and protects them all 100%.

It's Fast -

Termidor can work 2-6 times faster acting than a bait system since termites are highly social. Termidor works by ingestion and contact, through Termidor's 'transfer affect'. Termites which come into contact with the treatment continue their normal routine before dying, allowing them to go to where other termites are. Every termite it contacts, feeds or grooms will itself become a carrier, contacting and infecting others, eventually eliminating the entire colony.

It's Safe -

As the most exhaustively tested termiticide, Termidor is safe, odorless, colorless and tasteless. Since 1995, the chemical found in Termidor has been used globally for flea and tick control on millions of cats and dogs. It is also used to protect food supplies around the world. The entire termidor application program is typically completed in a day or less, there is no 'drying time', and you will likely notice no immediate difference. Within about 3 months, your entire treated area will be 100% termite-free. And with Termidor, it'll stay that way for years to come. It causes no inconvenience or health risks to either the home owner, pest control professionals, or household pets.

Barriers

This was the standard in termite defense, however it acts to repel termites, rather than destroy them. This works by applying a chemical barrier around and beneath the structure in order to block all possible routes of termite entry. Termites attempting to penetrate through the treated soil are either killed or repelled.

The challenge with this method is that some termite entry points are hidden behind walls, floor coverings, and other obstructions. As termites can tunnel through tiny, untreated gaps, essentially the termites can go around the treated areas. It is difficult to achieve absolute, thorough coverage with this method.

The best thing about Termidor is that the termites don't even know that it's there, they can't smell it, see it,or feel it. They forage freely in a treated area. The '100% effective' results begin here.

Baiting Systems

In this method, monitoring stations are placed around the structure. The stakes are baited with wood for the termites and monitored. When there is evidence that the termites have entered the stations, the wood is replaced with toxic bait, which infects the colony.

We have found two significant problems with this treatment. First, termites continue to damage the structure while waiting for them to find the bait. Second, after termites are controlled, if and when they return, unfortunately they may return to the structure first rather than to the baiting station. Baits can take from many months to several years to control the colony. The Termidor systems rids your home of termites 100%, within 3 months.

We do not recommend the use of termite baiting systems. They are expensive to install and maintain and simply are not effective.

Prevention

The following are steps you should take to make your home less inviting to termites (although in the pest control business there are only two types of homes, those that have termites and those that will.):

  • Eliminate standing water.

  • Gutters and downspouts should be kept clean and in good repair.

  • Maintain proper ventilation in crawl spaces.

  • Repair leaky plumbing and any drainage under the house.

  • Do not stack firewood close to the house. Remove any wood or tree stumps from around the home.

  • Cut back all shrubberies away from the foundation of the home.

  • Remove or correct any wood-to-ground contact.
