How do I know if I have termites?
The following is a list of tell tale signs that you have a termite problem and that you should
call Annapolis Pest Control right away:
- Sawdust-like "powder" near doors, windows and/or garage
- Stray wings left near doors, windows and/or garage
- Tiny holes on any wood surfaces in or outside of your home
- Paint that has started to bubble on wood surfaces
- Mud tunnels lining the foundation of your house, either inside or outside and/or the obvious sign...
- flying termites -- inside your house. They often are seen near sources of light
If you've seen any of these signs, then unfortunately the damage has already begun. If not, then it's still best to get your home inspected occasionally by a professional who knows the subtle warning signs of termite infestation, and where to look for them.

Swarming inside the structure...

Swarming inside the structure indicates that a colony already exists within the home. When termites swarm to begin new colonies, the wings of the termites that do not survive fall off when the termites drop to the ground.
Swarming that occur outdoors is not an indication that buildings are infested, however these termites that live underground tunnel up for food, which could include the structures.
Tunneling...

Termites build pencil-sized mud tubes for their travel from their nest to their food source.
Damaged wood...

If wood is termite damaged, you will hear a hollow thud when it is tapped with a hammer. If it is picked and probed with a pen knife or screwdriver, you will see tunnels running parallel with wood's grain. Other signs may include buckling paint or tiny holes on wood.
